Duncan Smith is a creative and strategic real estate developer and investor, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s investment strategy and managing complex projects. He is responsible for Oben’s Development and Investment functions, including development management, acquisitions, and capital fundraising. Duncan plays a critical role in scaling the company’s operations and ensuring project delivery excellence, and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to set strategic priorities for the firm.

Prior to joining Oben, Duncan spent over a decade at a large builder-developer in Toronto, where he was instrumental in expanding the company’s diverse portfolio, which spanned condominiums, purpose-built rentals, seniors’ housing, student residences, and low-rise communities. Duncan is a trusted counterparty, working closely with institutional investors, financial partners, and industry stakeholders to identify and execute strategic acquisitions and investments. His expertise spans project design and feasibility, approvals, financial modeling, capital structuring, and deal negotiations, allowing him to effectively manage complex real estate projects.

Duncan is actively involved in the broader city-building conversation, frequently engaging with industry leaders to explore emerging market trends and advancing Oben’s commitment to completing sustainable, inclusive, and forward-thinking projects. He is an active member and volunteer of the NAIOP Greater Toronto Chapter. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University. He lives in Toronto’s east end with his growing family and, outside of work, is an avid runner and soccer player who enjoys exploring the city on foot and by bike.
